The Intel 8284 is an oscillator chip, which was developed primarily for the Intel-8086/8087/8088/8089-processors. The component comes in 18-pinDIL package. It was licensed i.e. to NEC andSiemens.
It has a clock generator and an additional logic for READY/RESET-control. It is used since the first PC (IBM PC and IBM PC XT).
In 1980 the Intel 8284 and I8284 (industrial grade) version was available for 4.90 USD and 13.50 USD in quantities of 100 respectively.[1] [2]
